Biostatistician, Sr Requisition ID: req32513 Working Title: Senior Biostatistician Position Grade: 16 Position Summary The Division of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Preventive Medicine, within the Department of Internal Medicine, is seeking a Senior Biostatistician to address a significant workforce shortage at UNMHSC to support the design, conduct, and analysis of research studies. The successful candidate will have expertise in data management and analysis using software packages such as R or SAS; experience in electronic medical record databases, database software such as SQL and REDCap, data quality control, and design and analysis of clinical research studies. The Division has a robust research portfolio that includes randomized controlled trials, observational studies, and large administrative databases to address a variety of biomedical and health research questions. The Division maintains close ties to many UNM departments, centers, and colleges, with extensive opportunities for collaborative research in areas of cardiology, neuroscience, nephrology, environmental health, pediatrics, surgery, as well as data sciences. Duties and Responsibilities Creates analysis plans and study design of clinical trials, cohort studies, and observational studies including sample size/power calculations and missing data. Participates in grant development for new or continuing projects. Conducts consultation to investigators and researchers on efficient study designs and appropriate statistical approaches. Conducts data management using appropriate database systems (e.g., REDCap) that includes data processing, quality assurance and quality control, and documentation. Conducts data analysis to implement statistical analysis plans, including interpretation and presentation of statistical results. Supervises assigned personnel, including recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, and problem resolution. Maintains current knowledge of new and emerging statistical techniques, development of statistical software, health informatics, machine learning, and AI techniques. Responds to statistical issues arising in regulatory, quality, and compliance settings; prepares documents and reports to support clinical trials. Builds and sustains collaborative relationships across UNMHSC. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications MS in statistics, applied statistics, or closely related field. Experience performing statistical analysis of biomedical and health data. Experience using R, SAS in statistical data management and analysis. Experience writing, testing, implementing, and documenting statistical computer software programs. Experience using large databases, including EHR/EMR. Ability to prioritize work and manage time to complete multiple simultaneous projects. Ability to effectively communicate analytic results to clinicians and the study team. Knowledge and experience in informatics techniques (e.g., machine learning).
