Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or licensing may be tentatively referred and selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S., its territories, or D.C.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• (Note: VA physicians involved in academics may need to be board certified for faculty status.)
• Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA-accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs are not independent practitioners and will perform duties under supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English
• Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019

Duties

• Provide patient care related to endocrine disorders such as thyroid issues, diabetes, hypertension, infertility, cholesterol disorders, and endocrine cancers.
• Supervise endocrinology fellows during outpatient and inpatient rotations, including performing ultrasound-guided thyroid biopsies.
• Analyze patients' histories and symptoms to diagnose hormonal imbalances.
• Discuss diagnoses, treatment options, and preventive measures with patients.
• Conduct research on endocrine diseases to develop new treatments.
• Support patients with complex endocrine conditions and their families.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with possible compressed schedules.
