We are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Technician to join a busy orthopedic surgery clinic at a leading children's hospital in Houston, TX. This is for a 13-week contract role with the potential for permanent hire with a Monday through Friday schedule from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

The ideal candidate will assist the patient care team by providing casting and medical support to licensed providers during patient visits in both the clinic and emergency center. This role ensures smooth clinic operations by managing patient flow and assisting with supplies and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply casts and splints, and perform basic hardware maintenance on pediatric patients

  • Assist patients and families with all aspects of care related to orthopedic treatment

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation according to departmental standards

  • Educate families on cast maintenance and skin care following cast removal

  • Communicate effectively with the orthopedic team to coordinate care

  • Manage casting and clinic supplies, update PAR levels, and communicate supply needs

  • Share responsibility for checking exam room supplies daily

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in basic casting, splinting, and hardware maintenance

  • Knowledge of basic aseptic techniques and familiarity with orthopedic instrumentation and casting procedures

  • Understanding of pediatric developmental stages, patient care tasks, medical terminology, and managed care industry

  • Proficient in operating personal computers and basic clinic/patient care office equipment

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent time management and customer service skills

  • Ability to make quick decisions and work independently

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
