Job Description

Mission

Lando is on a mission to bring great enrichment classes to every student in the US. Our technology empowers teachers to deliver engaging, hands‑on learning at scale. Today, our classes operate in 100+ schools across California. We're backed by Reach Capital and Maveron, world-class investors in education and consumer technology.

About the Role

We’re seeking a Learning Systems Reliability Engineer —a systems‑minded engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware, software, and people. Your mandate: design, build, and continuously improve the end‑to‑end systems that guarantee a consistent, joyful learning experience for every student in every class.

Think of it as SRE for classrooms: you’ll combine QA engineering, dev‑ops rigor, and on‑the‑ground empathy for teachers to keep our instructional tech stack humming at 99.9%+ uptime while surfacing clear metrics and incentives that help teachers shine.

What You’ll Do

  • Own classroom reliability. Build monitoring, alerting, and automated tests that verify hardware kits, network connectivity, and classroom apps before each session.
  • Design incentives & metrics. Define the KPIs that matter (prep quality, device readiness, pacing adherence) and create lightweight dashboards and reward loops that motivate teachers to hit them.
  • Streamline troubleshooting. Create runbooks and self‑serve tools so issues are quickly resolved in the classroom.
  • QA at scale. Develop regression test suites for lesson content, firmware, and mobile apps; orchestrate field pilots to validate new releases under real classroom conditions.
  • Build feedback loops. Collect and analyze real-time data from classrooms to generate actionable insights for both teachers and our software.
  • Partner with teachers. Shadow classes, gather qualitative feedback, and translate frontline pain points into engineering tickets.
  • Drive continuous improvement. Facilitate post‑mortems, implement root‑cause fixes, and publish reliability reports that keep the whole company focused on student experience.

Must‑Haves

  • 3+ years in systems, dev‑ops, SRE, or QA engineering roles covering both hardware & software products.
  • Proven track record designing automated test/monitoring pipelines that keep complex systems above 99% uptime.
  • Strong scripting or programming skills (Python, Bash, or similar) and familiarity with CI/CD tooling.
  • Comfort setting and tracking operational KPIs; ability to translate data into clear action plans.
  • Hands‑on mindset—you’re excited to visit classrooms, swap cables, and talk with teachers.
  • Passion for education and a belief that every student deserves a great class, every time.

Nice‑to‑Haves

  • Prior work in ed‑tech, customer success, or teacher training.
  • Familiarity with MDM solutions, network security, or low‑bandwidth environments.
  • Ability to build simple front‑end dashboards for internal tools.

Culture Fit

We prototype and test fast. We default to action, measure what matters (student joy + learning proof), and treat every class as a chance to improve tomorrow’s lesson. If you love shipping incremental fixes over perfecting 30‑page plans, you’ll thrive here.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $80k - $160k
  • Equity: 0.1% - 0.5%
  • Healthcare with Dental and Vision, 401(k), $5k equipment stipend
